My "Small Business" Story
The early years of my professional career were invested working for large corporations -- Abbey Medical, Foster Medical, New England Critical Care, and CareMark, to name a few. I learned a lot. I am happy, and proud, to have had those opportunities. But the entrepreneurial spirit burned within me. I never felt settled in, like I was home.
So, in 1989, my family and I took the risk of venturing out on our own! After a few years in corporate America, I thought I knew what to expect. But no amount of preparation seemed adequate, once we embarked on the journey.
Starting a small business was a fulfillment of one of my life long dreams. The journey was, and is, filled with adventure, stress, unexpected twists, and challenges! Today, 25 years later, we are proud to say we are still here. The journey has been filled with challenges, highs and lows, wins and losses, friends and foes, laughter and tears.
Owning a small business has not been easy, but so rewarding. It has blessed us with a sustainable living. It provided an opportunity for our daughters to pursue a college education -- and they both graduated! It's given us the blessing of involving our community, and along the way we had the privilege of hiring and including our friends and neighbors. The greatest honor has been including them in our success, and seeing their hard work rewarded.
We strive everyday to make a difference in our community; our little part of the world. Everyone around me has heard me say (way too many times, I am sure), "we want to be part of the fabric of the community!"
Thank you to Franklin, Warren County, and our friends, neighbors, clients and partners, for having the faith to stick with us -- to be part of our dream! I can never repay you!
